Been back in Rainhill for Christmas to see the family. Things have changed a bit in the village over the last few years, with shops closing and opening, sometimes for better sometimes for worse. However, the best new addition is the Caffè & Co. cafe (http://www.caffeandco.com/) in the old HSBC building. Rainhill has been crying out for a cafe forever, although I don’t think anyone realised it. There’s a nice atmosphere inside, very clean and modern and both the food and coffee are good – I had a BLT which I know was fresh as I saw them buy the lettuce from the veg shop next door. A further plus point is the fact that they served fried breakfast until 2pm, it’s always good when a cafe lets you decide when breakfast is. Great potential to be the daytime social hub that the village has been missing.
Also had a chance to go to my favourite local, The Commercial Hotel near the station, great place, the definition of a proper pub.
