Claypath Delicatessen Review

Ate lunch in the excellent Claypath Delicatessen today, I must say upfront that this is my favourite cafe in Durham. They had a great winter vegetable and ham soup special on, just like how my mum makes it – celery, carrots, barley, onions, turnip, lentil and ham in a peppery stock – beautiful! and some corn bread to dip in.

There’s a nice atmosphere with a mix of families, students and tourists. Couldn’t help over hearing an amusing conversation from some wannabe “entrepeneurs” on the next table.

As well as having the best cafe food in Durham it’s also one of the cheapest, lunch and drinks for 2 for £8.50 whereas it cost £10 for cakes and tea in the Yum (Durham University catering) run Alms Houses!
