Some quick Durham pub favourites

I’ll revisit all of the pubs below in later reviews but here’s a few of my favourites.

The Victoria on Halgarth Street – Great “Old Man” pub, cosy, real fires and one of the best beers in Durham: Big Lamp Bitter. No TVs, no meals but does do range of pub snacks, toasties and pickled eggs (not plucked up courage to try them yet), best for relaxing pint after work

The Half Moon on New Elvet – Proper drinkers pub a little bit “Rovers Return” but that’s a good thing. TVs show Sky Sports for the football, again no meals but toasties and pub snacks available.

The Colpitts – Sam Smiths pub so it’s very cheap – £1.60 a pint! another great “Old Man” pub. Pub quiz on tuesday is set at a good level – ie I’ve occaisionally won it. Pool table out the back too. Again no food except pub snacks. Better than the the other Sam Smiths pub in Durham The Swan and Three Signets.

Other decent pubs are the aforementioned Swan and Three on Elvet Bridge, The Dun Cow Inn on Old Elvet, The Shakespeare Tavern on Saddler St, The Market Tavern in the market square and The Woodman at the top of Claypath (technically Gilesgate)
