Some quick Durham cafe favourites

Claypath Delicatessen – near top of Claypath, great for Saturday lunch, fantastic choice of sandwiches, salads and platters at very reasonable prices. Mediterranean and English style food.

Vennels Cafe – Just off Saddler St up a little alley, nice for afternoon tea and cake, there’s a very nice upstairs to it

Cafe Continental – Elvet Bridge opposite Swan and Three, nice choice of cakes

Saddlers Cafe – Saddler St, good for a quick Saturday lunch, sandwiches cakes and large choice of pasta.

The Alms Houses – On the Palace Green near Cathedral, good for a quick cake or lunch, great soups

Pancake Cafe – Crossgate next to Ye Olde Elm Tree, great savoury and sweet pancakes in a cosy environment Review Here

Other good cafes – Chapters just up from Elvet bridge, Leonards (impossible to find as it’s in Fowler’s yard behind the Market), the new Starbucks opposite the Gates shopping centre, Esquires on Silver St (penguin logo?) opposite the less than good chain restaurant Cafe Rouge
